Call the treating team sooner for a new persistent dry cough, increasing breathlessness, reduced exercise tolerance, chest discomfort, fainting, or lower oxygen readings. Sudden severe shortness of breath, chest pain, coughing blood, blue lips, confusion, or very low oxygen requires urgent medical assessment because infection, blood clot, pneumothorax, heart disease, or another emergency may be responsible.
